Journeying Through Dreams

October 6, 2009

As Pagans, we put a lot of stock on dreaming.  We write down dreams that we remember and make attempts to interpret them.  We turn to dreams and sleep with questions that we cannot consciously answer, seeking guidance and aid.  Personally I like to think of dreaming as a voyage into the West, and have used something similar to the following cantrip when going to bed to ask for guidance in my dream journeys:

As Sun has set and light grows paler,

Come and Guide this willing sailor

‘Cross sleep’s seas to dream land’s shores

Until this night is no more.

The first line of this cantrip is fluid in my practice–generally I use it to call upon my spirit guides rather than using a set piece of text.  However, if you don’t work with specific guides yet (or do not know their names), a generic first line will serve notice that you are calling on all and any interested beings of non-harmful intent to aid you in your nightly journeys through dream space.
