While looking for something to write about for this Sip of the Day, I was thumbing through a journal and came across a drawing of a redwood circle surrounding a grandmother tree. Some folks call these “fairy circles.”
It reminded me of a particular ritual grounding/opening that I’ve always enjoyed. The essence of it is that you imagine yourself to be a tree.
You feel your roots growing down, down into the ground.
You draw up energy from the earth.
You feel your branches grow up, up into the sky.
You receive energy from the heavens.
That energy mixes somewhere in the middle and feels good!
I love this because I have a particular fondness for trees.
Fairy circles are created when the grandmother tree shoots off roots in every direction. Some of these roots turn into trees of their own and eventually the grandmother, for whatever reason, dies off. What’s left behind is a circle of her progeny.
Imagine yourself as a grandmother tree.
You feel your roots growing down, down into the ground.
You draw up energy from the earth.
You feel your branches grow up, up into the sky.
You receive energy from the heavens.
You begin to notice seedlings growing all around you.
What are they? What are the creations you are gifting into the world?
Begin to draw more energy from the earth.
Begin to receive more energy from the heavens.
Let all that new energy seep into your creations.
Watch them grow strong and true.
Help them to reach maturity.
Help these creations to take a life of their own.
Now let yourself fade from view.

What do you see around you?
What is the legacy you are leaving behind with your creations?
What will others who come and stand where you once did experience?
What are the redwoods of your life?
What is your Fairy Circle?
