“One of the most fabulous, creative and provocative rituals I’ve ever attended.” “Splendid!”
~ M. Macha NightMare, P&W
Yes They Are! Meeting and Greeting the Queerest of the Gods has been our most successful offering to date. We have performed this production twice with different casts.
The first performance was at Pantheacon 2009. We had over 100 audience members who showed up to meet and greet some queer deities. Coming out of that success we decided to perform out here in the muggle world. That performance took place in June at the San Francisco Unitarian Church. It was a smaller venue and we had about 80 audience members.
Yes They Are! Meeting and Greeting the Queerest of the Gods will once again be performed at Pantheacon in February of 2010. That is if our proposal is approved.
This is the official description of the performance:
Throughout history, members of what is known today as the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, Transgender, Intersex, Queer and Questioning (GLBTIQQ) community held important positions in the priesthoods of various deities the world over. However, current traditions that emphasize ”fertile” relationships between Goddess and God and idealize a heterosexual “Great Rite” can relegate our experiences and sensibilities to the sidelines. But our very existence proves that there are purposes in life as important as procreation, and every purpose in life is represented by its own set of deities. Those of us, both women and men, regardless of different and fluid sexual orientations and gender identities, who have formed or joined GLBTIQQ specific circles often find unexpected allies in our explorations of the world’s various pantheons. In this theatrical ritual, hosted by the Circle of Dionysos, we’d like you to meet them.
